Congregational Vitality

What is your passion? What are the needs of others?

What is Congregational Vitality?

Congregational vitality can be defined and experienced in many different ways. It immediately raises questions like, "Well, what is vitality? Who gets to define that?” The meaning of what is "life-giving” and "vital” is very contextual indeed. A crucial part of parish leadership is discovering what the life energy of a parish is and how that reality can be nurtured and grown within the community and then shared with those who are not yet a part of your congregation’s life.

Connecting Points and Life Energy

Each parish connects at various levels with those it gathers into its life. Understanding those connection points and what is ultimately life-giving within a parish is fundamental to effective leadership. As the dynamics of parish life shift with the ebb and flow of community and societal change, becoming an expert in the root causes of connection is essential.

Diocesan Resources for Congregational Vitality

The Diocese of Kentucky is committed to supporting our congregations to enter more fully into their God-given ministry. One of the central supports for our congregations is the Canon for Congregational Vitality ministry on the bishop’s staff. Rather than adopting a "hired consultant from the sidelines” model of parish support, the Diocese intentionally seeks to express an incarnational model of leadership by providing a Bishop’s staff member dedicated to walking along side congregations and supporting them whatever their parish dynamic and context calls for.

Canon Jason Lewis is available to work with your congregation regarding welcoming ministries, stewardship, strategic planning, intentional ministry development, vestry retreats, leadership workshops, etc.
